Granite Gear has been building packs specific to the needs of long distance hikers since 2003 when we introduced the award winning Vapor Trail and Nimbus Ozone, winning Backpacker’s coveted Editor’s Choice award, as well as the respect of the long distance hiking community. Our objective has stayed the same! Develop and build packs that are as light as possible while still offering optimal comfort, suspension, compression and exceptional durability.

Like its predecessors, The Blaze AC 60 is Spartan in its simplicity and features our engineered Air Current suspension. The Air Current suspension consists of a 3-dimensionally molded alloyed frame, our quickest torso length adjustment system, padded shoulder straps, and a swappable hip belt for a custom fit. The AC frame has molded air channels, works in conjunction with a molded foam pad and durable stretch mesh to aid in venting heat and moisture away from the back; allowing for natural evaporative cooling. The pack body is a simple, lidless top loader with a tall spindrift opening that can be cinched and rolled down tight for weather resistance and also expanded when extra space is needed. The arched Line-Loc compression system allows the load to be cinched tight in every direction (side, front, and top) as well as allowing additional gear to be lashed to the pack. The Line-Loc cord can easily be replaced if it wears out from extended use. Durable and versatile stretch mesh pockets on the bottom of the pack sides work well for water bottles, while the tall front center pocket is great for damp tarps or ultralight tents.

Features

  • hydration compatible
  • hip pack lid sold separately
  • interchangeable belt
  • torso length adjustability on framsheet
  • ultralight lineloc micro compression
  • large stretch mesh front pocket
  • Lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship

Never thought I would be able to find a replacement for my Granite Gear Nimbus Ozone.....But the Blaze AC 60 was it!

Stunningly dependable. Lighter than most day packs out there and more than tough enough to carry a good load.

This pack will go with you wherever you want to go... and you'll hardly notice it's there due to how well it's designed. I've had mine for 6 to 7 years now and actually bought a second last year to stash in the basement in case this one gives out. No sign of that at all! (Posted on 4/30/2018)

Used this pack on the John Muir Trail during late summer 2017. Bought at great little destination store, Elevation, in Lone Pine, CA and they did a great job fitting me with it. Added the top lid for quick access stuff like rain gear and toilet kit. Used required bear canister vertical in pack and stuffed lots of stuff under around and on top. Great comfort and weight distribution. Put water bladder in front pocket or on top. Very comfortable and light. After I hiked the trail I added all of the Granite gear accessory pockets which I think are even more functional than built in pockets. Very durable backpack. (Posted on 3/6/2018)

Recently retired and wanted to get into more light weight gear hiking, I chose this pack after much research. So far have used the pack for 9 days on the Tahoe Rim Trail, New Zealand Milford, Greenstone Valley and Routeburn tracks, our local national park. I am currently preparing for Camino Frances and will use this pack. At first I was a bit worried with the limited number of Zips. Got over that by using colorful ditty zipper bags to help me separate food and sundries. I bought a zipper pocket for both the belt (small camera and snacks) and shoulder strap container small for snacks. Love the colors, works well context to the natural environment. I want to treat myself to a new backpack but then I tell myself what for! This pack works for me,

Used for 5 months to Thru hike the Appalachian Trail in 2016. Main pocket held everything I needed including large food supplies over the Smokies and Maine’s 100 mile wilderness. The long outer mesh pocket worked great for my tent wet or dry. Sides worked great for smart water bottles. I didn’t need or use the add on lid. Over the whole trip I got one hole in a side mesh pocket that I sewed. And towards the end one of my shoulder straps started to slip slightly and I plan to replace for an upcoming PCT Thru hike. I did add some zpacks belt pockets that I wish were original to my Blaze 60. I love the look, no frills and function of this pack! Granite Gear representatives I met at Trails Days and the customer support was excellent! (Posted on 12/2/2017)

  6. Awesome pack! Review by Gabby

Going from day hikes to backpacking, was not happy with weight or fit of what the stores were showing me. Tried a frameless, very light but very tough on a bad back. Was torn between the blaze and crown, and.could not find them anywhere to try on...
Very happy with the blaze, has been on 5 backpacking and many day trips. Women's frame and belt, sits perfectly on my hips and the regular torso is just long enough to keep it all off my shoulders. Do not miss a lid, and side pockets are deep but low enough to access without taking the pack off. Easily carry 25-30lbs, and bear vaults fit in or straps to the top nicely.
I've taken to using this exclusively. For day hikes it cinches all the way down and carries everything I'd need and more, much more comfortably than my day pack. I even love the colors :)
The only downside is no hipbelt pockets but it hasn't been an issue. I just keep things in the side pockets bundled in ziplocks, and have had no problems. (Posted on 9/17/2017)

  7. Perfect for Light and Fast Review by The Old Guy

I use this pack for summer and short trip shoulder season. I bought the lid and take it on and off easily as needed. Lots of external pockets for rain gear, snacks and wet items. Very comfortable with a full load in it up to about 35+ lbs.

Taking on a five day 100 km trail this July where rough terrain calls for light loads.

Seems tough as my sit down and slide approach to some of my White Mountain trips hasn't caused any damage. (Posted on 7/5/2017)

I've used this pack on several trips now. Both in Colorado and Wyoming. I love this pack. I always have the lightest pack in my group (except for the kiddos). The weight is amazing. I was worried with this light of pack if it would be comfortable and it is. This pack doesn't have a lot of frills but what it does offer is a comfortable lightweight option. I did a lot of comparison shopping before deciding on this pack but i couldn't be happier with it.

The only complaint I have with this pack is the color selection but that is a pretty minor issue.
    Highly recommend (Posted on 8/11/2016)

In 2014 I section-hiked the PCT, including sections of the desert, high Sierra, and southern Oregon. Lots of ascents and descents. Regrettably, being a neophyte, I went with an ultralight sub-2 lb Cuben fiber backpack. To be fair, the company's website suggested carrying no more than 25 lbs in the pack, which I ignored, to my detriment. What with several days' food and several liters of water for long dry sections, my weight was north of 40 lbs. while I had an enjoyable time of it, I daily regretted that pack! The hip belt was not up to the task of a heavier load, nor were the shoulder straps. I made them a bit more comfortable by sewing lengths of 1/8 " dish dry pad to them.

Fast forward to last summer on my 160 mile Collegiate Loop Trail in Colorado. I purchased the Blaze 60 based on the several positive reviews, expert and trail user. It performed to my expectations. My loads probably averaged between 30-34 pounds and this pack did the job. The shoulder and hip belts were comfortable and fully supportive of the load.

To me, it's a 5-star pack for load carrying and comfort, though the internal frame felt a tad stiff towards the end of the day. I give it 4-stars for the lack of hip belt pockets, a narrow front pocket, and hard-to-reach water bottle pockets. For a 3 lb backpack, it does the job with loads to the mid 30's. Have been using my Blaze pack now for more than three years; wearing it on my back on my way to Work, walking the camino, strolling in the nature with my Family and so on. It fits really really well, you cannot practically feel that you are wearing a backpack. Would have been perfect with one or two small side pockets, like the Nimbus Trace Acces, for small Things like pocket knife, flashlight, VISA Card etc. But apart from this, it is a truly great pack! Has been in use nearly nonstop for the past 2 years and the worst damage it has suffered is a hole in the mesh front pocket. Don't be concerned over the lack of pockets, everything you need quickly can be put in the front or side mesh pockets and the rest should be stowed away. Fantastic pack all around, although having the lid and hip belt pocket not included is a bit of a downer. (Posted on 7/3/2015)

So, I used my new Blaze AC 60 pack which I've had for over a year now (but hadn't been able to use due to other issues) and this is a solid back pack. However, after my trip one of the screws came out and fortunately my daughter was able to find it but either the bracket was stripped or the screw. Just got off the phone with Granite Gear and they are shipping me out a replacement right away. Awesome!!! It was as easy as typing this review. I'm a very happy camper now. (Posted on 6/5/2015)

This pack is without a doubt my favorite piece of gear!!!! At first I was concerned with the limited pockets I.e., a top, or lack there of, but now I will never go back. Extremely functional and rugged. Now I live by the phrase "more pockets more stuff". So far two of my friends have purchased the same bag after going on a trek with me. Love it!!!!!! What torso length should I get?

To find your torso length, measure the distance between your seventh cervical vertebra and the shelf of your hipbones. Do this by standing up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. Tilt your head forward and place your hands on your hips, thumbs to the back. With a flexible tape, have someone measure from the most prominent vertebra at the base of your neck to an imaginary line drawn between your thumbs. This will be your torso length.

Torso Lengths

Short Torso 14” to 18”
Regular Torso 18” to 22”

NOTE: Each framesheet has fine adjustment settings spaced in one inch increments to further fine-tune your fit. If you are an 17” torso try the short torso first.

What size hipbelt?

This belt is a “soft” belt. It has no plastic exoskeleton like our other belts. It is lighter and more comfortable when carrying smaller loads of 40 pounds or less.
