Superior comfort under 30# Review by Nemo

I was lucky to be a gear tester of the first Vapor Trail in 2003 on the AT. It is 2018 and I am still using that pack with minimal wear. It was such an awesome pack because it saved my thruhike. I was in an ill fitting pack before and was so sore and bruised by the time I got to Trail Days. When I hiked the PCT and CDT I used a Nimbus Ozone because I needed a bit more space to carry more water and a bear can at times. When my Nimbus finally busted at a seam, Granite Gear used their amazing powers of customer service and sent me a Blaze AC 60 Ki in Short, at my request. It wasn't exactly like the Nimbus or the Vapor Trail, kind of a perfect blend. It is a bit stiffer than the Vapor Trail but not as large as the Nimbus Ozone. The suspension is so comfortable on my frame. I am a shorter woman with a petite frame but a 17" torso, so the pack has to be adjustable in many ways and have straps that contour enough to fit me. You can adjust the torso easily and the shoulder straps and hipbelt can be swapped out if you lose weight, as happens to many on a thru hike. It does not ride up or slip down, so is kind of like a turtle shell on your back- very snug fit, which prevents chaffing. It has some great new features, like the replaceable cords instead of compression straps and the large stretch pocket. My original Vapor Trail was not hydration compatible I'm so old, so that is another great feature. The Air Current mesh worries me slightly. It seems that it might have a tough time in a desert environment with stickers or cacti or other rough surfaces abrading it, but I am mostly hiking in the Adirondacks these days and I know that Granite Gear stands by their products. This pack is going to work best if you keep the weight midback and don't overstuff the spindrift, so will be best for loads under 30# or so and not too bulky. Lovely pack for those of us "almost lightweight folk" who desire actual comfort, but weight conscious enough not to want anything over 3 pounds. If you are a smaller framed woman, this is a great thru hiking pack. (Posted on 2/12/2018)

Very nice pack. light weight and compact. I did just over 300 miles in 25 days in Spain, and 95 miles at the Philmont Scout Ranch in NM . Also purchased the upper "brain" and it helped for quick access items Highly recommended. (Posted on 1/8/2018)
