I bought this pack as a last minute way to cut some weight before starting my Appalachian Trail thru hike shortly after this pack came out. The pack literally arrived as I was leaving to start my hike, so the first time that I actually put in on was for my first steps on the trail. I was immediately satisfied with the fit and comfort. As my hike went on, the pack got to show what it was really made of. It stood up to 2200 miles of rugged trail, boulders, and rain, and still has plenty of life left in it. I think that this pack is right on the line of ultra light and super durable; much lighter and it probably would only hold up for one thru hike, any more weight would be unnecessary with no added durability or comfort. I loved the big roomy hip pockets and huge side pockets. The adjustable hip belt was life saver because my waist shrunk quite a bit over the course of 4 months. I would sometimes clip the lid to the shoulder straps with caribeeners to be a chest pack, which worked great. The only show of wear that my pack has after 2200 miles of use is a bit of wear at the top corners where the plastic frame sheet rubbed. I will say that the recommended load rating of 35 pounds is pretty accurate. Whenever I was lugging extra food and was a bit over 35 lbs, I could tell a big difference. It handled sub 30 lbs very comfortably. I actually enjoyed wearing it. The 60 liters with the roll top was the perfect size, offering just enough space for extra food when needed, but cinching down small and compact with no unnecessary weight for good handling. My pack has many more trips left in it. Now if I can only find a way to get that thru-hiker stench out of it. This pack is a great piece of gear, especially at this price range. Just just received the pack today. Really impressed with the quality of this pack, workmanship is excellent, fit is better than my osprey and the price, well let's just say the price can't be beat. Best purchase I've made on a pack thus far. (Posted on 12/24/2017)
Best pack I've owned Review by Pugsie

I took a shot in the dark on this pack having never tried it on before purchasing it, but I believe that I hit the target dead center. I got the short torso (I'm 5'7" with a 17" torso) and it fit exactly how it should. I've been hit with pretty severe back pain out hiking when I've had poorly fitting packs on (more often than I'd like to admit) but that has never once been an issue with this pack, and I've taken it on 20+ mile trips. It carries everything I need it to, including a bear canister on occasion with ease and even with a good 30 lbs was still sitting quite well on my back. The compression straps on the side are handy when it's not completely full or when I've needed to tie down my tent or trekking poles. The water bottle pockets are very roomy and easily fit two 1L smartwater bottles or whatever else you need close. The back mesh pocket is ideal if you have some wet gear to stow away or a jacket you want quick access to. The belt pockets are a good size for clif bars or a head lamp, but they can also fit my Galaxy S7 which is nice. For the space and comfort that this pack offers, you would never guess that it was so light. The features and the light weight was what ultimately made me pull the trigger since I plan on using it on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2018. I have high hopes for this pack over those 2,650 miles. I’ve been backpacking a long time, I have owned multiple packs through the years, from external frames, internal frames, and no frames. When i started looking for a new pack, I noticed today’s trends for the "ultra-light" models. Now I'm not opposed to mom and pop shops merchandise, a lot of them are very good. But, for me the backpack is the one piece of gear that is used 100% of the time. I wanted to know what I was getting.
I am very glad I did the research and took my time.
This pack is one of the best purchases I have made for backpacking gear. It’s light, but very durable. It allows for a custom fit to your body and feels like an extension of my torso, rather than something hanging off the back of me. And it has enough storage design that I never have to wonder, “Where am I going to fit this item?"
The fit and comfort are outstanding.
The materials are top notch.
The ruggedness has been tested and has been more than durable.
And the design has been thoughtful and simple.

Well done Granite Gear.

They say the devil is in the details, well then this pack is Satan. This pack has all the cool little do hikies you want without all the weight. With the crown on its 4lbs 4oz. I love the new back pad and the material. I could not have got a better pack for the money. I'm more than satisfied and can't wait to get on the trail with it. Granite gear kicks ass! Why does the pack description say hydration sleeve when there clearly isn't one?! Review by Kody

Just bought this pack from REI. Like the design, but am frustrated at your pack description. Why does the pack description say hydration sleeve when there clearly isn't one?! There is a little hook but what am I supposed to do with that?! Come on!

INFO@GRANITEGEAR.COM Response: Thank you for your purchase Kody! The zippered pocket on the interior back wall is designed to hold a 3L hydration bladder, which can be hung on the hook you see. This is the same zippered pocket that houses the molded frame sheet. Thanks again and happy trails!!! (Posted on 4/13/2017)
